Overnight Oatmeal

Overnight oatmeal is a different way to make and eat oatmeal. You mix together the ingredients in a mason jar, leave it in the fridge overnight, and eat it in the morning. Yes, you eat them cold! Don’t make a face yet – you gotta try them first before you turn your nose up at them. One important note: You can’t use instant oatmeal or steel cut oats with these recipes – it must be OLD FASHIONED ROLLED OATS.

Ingredients

These are the basic ingredients that you can choose from to find your favorite flavors:

  • Yogurt: plain or Greek yogurt (we don’t use Greek yogurt because it’s too sour)
  • Rolled oatmeal
  • Liquid: regular milk, skim milk, almond milk, water, etc.
  • Protein and fiber: Chia seeds, Flax seeds, ground flax, or protein powder
  • Sweetener: sugar, brown sugar, honey, agave nectar, maple syrup, jams, and all those fake sugars
  • Flavorings: cocoa, ground cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, lemon/orange/lime zest, extracts (vanilla, almond, lemon, etc.), food grade
essential oils (cinnamon, peppermint, lemon, etc.), mint leaves, etc.
  • Add-ins: shredded coconut, canned fruit, shredded carrot, chocolate chips, carob chips, butterscotch chips, along with:
    • Fresh fruit: strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, bananas, apples, pears, mango, kiwi, peaches, plums, grapes, etc.
    • Dried fruit: raisins, dates, cranberries, blueberries, apricots, prunes, etc.
